Ingredients

  • For the Crust:
  • 1 (15.25-ounce) box chocolate cake mix
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • For the Filling:
  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 4 cups sweetened shredded coconut
  • For the Topping:
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream

Instructions

  • Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Spray a 9x13-inch glass baking pan with nonstick baking spray.
  • Make the Crust: In a large bowl, beat together the chocolate cake mix, milk, melted butter, and almond extract until a soft dough forms. Press a little more than half of the dough evenly into the prepared pan. Set aside.
  • Prepare the Filling: In a medium bowl, mix together the sweetened condensed milk and shredded coconut until everything is well-coated. Spread this mixture evenly over the dough in the pan.
  • Add the Topping: Crumble the remaining dough over the coconut layer. Bake for 25-26 minutes. Once done, place the pan on a wire rack and let it cool completely.
  • Make the Chocolate Layer: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and heavy whipping cream. Heat on high for 1 minute, then stir until the mixture is creamy and smooth.
  • Finish and Serve: Spread the melted chocolate mixture over the cooled bars. Allow the chocolate to set before cutting into bars.
