I discovered these crispy outside, soft inside cheese bread rolls during my time in Germany, and let me tell you, they’re absolutely delicious! 🤩 They’re sure to become a staple at your breakfast table.
Cheesy German Bread Rolls
Ingredients
- For the dough:
- 1 packet of dry yeast or 20 grams of fresh yeast
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
- 1 cup of warm water
- 4-5 cups of all-purpose flour (about 500 grams)
- For the topping:
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon of milk
- 200 grams of shredded cheese
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast with a bit of water and sugar. Then, add the rest of the ingredients and knead until you have a smooth dough (about 10 minutes).
- Cover the dough and let it rise for about 1 hour.
- Divide the dough into 6-8 pieces and shape them into balls. Arrange them on a baking sheet with some space between each roll. Cover them again and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Mix the egg yolk and milk, then brush it over the risen dough balls. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake the rolls for about 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
